Format of Legal Competence

Competence is a level of excellence provided in terms of any skill or service by any professional or service provider. In the world of law, competent lawyers are always in demand. Lawyers are labelled as competent when they outperform their job duties both in terms of serving the client and in executing their legal talent.

Competence is their way of proving the point that their professional proficiency is at a level above that of their counterparts. Hence, they display this expertise and excellence in all their legal service offerings.

Competent law professionals maintain their distinction and prominence in terms of their moral beliefs, professional values, and client facilitation. Legal competence can be viewed in two forms.

These two forms are named specific competence and general competence. Specific competence is the precise capability of a law professional that is shown on individual grounds. It is specific and distinct for each law expert. Moreover, the perception of competence is determined and exuded by the specific lawyer himself.

Consequently, no two law professionals can be of the same competence.

level. Differences exist due to a difference in terms of experience, expertise, and individual legal aptitude. Moreover, a law professional may even fail to prove his competence at all in the law world.

This happens when the professional in question lacks in any department of service provision, client handling, or practical legal skill. Thus, he fails to impress the target audience with his legal talent, professional norms, and quality of work output.

Ultimately, the majority of the clients do not trust him with their case files since he lacks the credibility and the much-needed competence to deal with their legal traumas.

On the other hand, the general competence of a specific law professional is decided by the regularity bodies authorised to do so. It is the perception of the presence or absence of legal talent and ability in a lawyer.

Consequently, this perception leads to the decisions regarding the issuance, or cancellation of licences to particular law professionals to enable or disable them to practice the law. Hence, it is important for an aspiring lawyer to achieve both the specific and general competence to have a successful and flourishing law career.
